Projects
Lab research, engineering models, software and device work, from my BSc to today. Each project has its own page with what I did and what I found.
Zirconium nanosheets for bone repair
A four-month bench study asking whether a zirconium nanomaterial is safe for bone cells, and whether it helps them build bone.
An electrochemical biosensor for COVID-19
Fifteen months in a research team developing a sensor that detects COVID-19 by measuring electrical signals, alongside broad day-to-day lab work.
Drug response in glioblastoma cells
Testing how brain tumour cells respond to a drug at different doses, and writing a Python tool to count and size cells from microscope images.
Macrophage polarisation in atherosclerosis
Studying how macrophages, immune cells involved in artery plaque, change state, by measuring which genes they switch on.
Finite element analysis of spinal fixation
Modelling vertebrae in Abaqus to see whether adding screws and rods reduces the mechanical load on the joints between them.
Blood flow in an aneurysm, in virtual reality
Simulating blood flow in an aneurysm before and after a stent is placed, then turning the results into a VR scene that clinicians and patients can both understand.
Medical device design in SolidWorks
Designing medical device components and mechanisms in SolidWorks during my BSc.
X-ray filter toolkit
Sharpening a blurred foot X-ray with three classic filters, and comparing them with numbers as well as by eye.
AI analysis of catheter adverse event reports
Using a large language model to read 300 FDA adverse event reports for long-term central venous catheters, and testing how far its answers can be trusted.
Signal detection agent with a SQL database
Extending the catheter analysis into an agent that codes reports, checks its own answers, stores everything in a database and runs SQL checks for emerging problems.
Fixing a rejected design dossier
Revising the design file for a long-term implantable central venous catheter after it had been rejected at review.
Bringing an AI recovery app to two markets
Planning how an AI-assisted app that guides patients after surgery could reach the market in the UK and the US.
